FAQ’s Edition 1: June 2017

As a customer of Hambleton Leisure Centre, we wanted to make sure you are kept up to date with the development project as it happens including any closures of the facility.

What’s happening?

Hambleton District Council has committed £2.5, in order to revamp Hambleton Leisure Centre including £213k grant assistance from Sport England.

The new improvements will help our Zest customers enjoy an ACTIVE life.

What does the project include?

  • New state-of-the-art fitness suite extension that more than doubles the current work out space and includes a toning studio, accessible toilet and changing room and 24 hour gym access.
  • Remodelling of dry female and male members’ changing areas and toilets
  • Remodelling of the pool changing village
  • New spinning studio
  • New multi-purpose dance studio
  • New platform lift in Reception
  • Sports Hall refurbishment
  • Essential maintenance works to poolside

When does the project start?

Construction works started on 26 June 2017. Ten nearby parking bays have been taken out of use to allow access into the site compound and contractor parking. There is also likely to be an increase in traffic coming in and out of the carpark during the works.

When will the improvements be completed?

All facilities will be open for 2 January 2018 with some open before then.

How can I contribute my views?

As the project progresses customers will be consulted regarding gym equipment, fitness classes and pool programme in August. This will be conducted at the centre and online. If you have any comments at this stage please email leisure.website@hambleton.gov.uk

How will I be kept up to date with progress?

Storyboards and updates will be displayed around the centre. Updated information will also be posted online at Hambleton.gov.uk/zest/hlcproject, through our Facebook page at Facebook.com/HambletonLeisureCentre as well as updated on this development website.

Will there be any closures?

Yes, but we have a phased approach to the redevelopment and will be closing individual areas on a basis that minimises disruption to customers.

Phase 1

Building works commenced 26 June 2017 on the fitness suite extension. Access to the current gym will be unaffected by this.

Phase 1 closures are listed below:
1. The Outdoor Changing Rooms will be closed for 8 weeks to allow contractors unrestricted access. These works commenced Monday 26 June 2017 until Friday 18 August 2017.
2. The Sports Hall will be closed for a period of 6 weeks. The refurbishment of the Sports Hall will commence Monday 24 July 2017 until Friday 1 September 2017.

Phase 2

Phase 2 includes refurbishment of the Sports Hall Changing Rooms, Swimming Pool, Changing Village and Reception works. Advance notice will be provided regarding any closures/disruption to these areas. This information will be communicated mid-July to all those directly affected.

Phase 3

Gym and Studio redevelopment will start later in the year. Information will be communicated mid-September to those affected.
