FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – Edition 3: October 2017

As a customer of Hambleton Leisure Centre, we wanted to make sure you are kept up to date with the development project as it happens including any closures of the facility.

When will the improvements be completed?

All facilities will be open in January 2018 with some open before then.

What is included in the poolside maintenance works?

  • Waterslide steps
  • Poolside barriers
  • Improved operation of features
  • Improved operation of wave machine
  • The poolside showers will be refurbished as part of the overall refurbishment of the changing village
  • Resurfaced pool surround walkways

As a result of Customer feedback, we listened and we are also looking at a number of other improvements to refresh the poolside area to enhance the customer experience.

What have we done so far?

Building works are well underway on the fitness suite. Access to the current gym is unaffected.

The Sports Hall refurbishment and the new Sports Hall Changing rooms (formerly Outdoor Change) are complete and are open to the public.  A new lift has been installed in reception.

Programme of Works (Revised dates):

  • The Swimming Pool will be closed until Monday 11 December 2017
  • The new Gym will be open to customers on Monday 11 December 2017
  • The new Toning suite will be open on Monday 11 December 2017 – Click here for more information.
  • The Changing Village will be closed until Monday 11 December 2017
  • The Members Changing Rooms (formerly Sports Hall Changing) will be closed until Monday 11 December 2017
  • Phase 3: Gym & Studio redevelopment – The existing gym will be closing on Monday 11 December to coincide with the new gym opening. Work will commence to turn the existing gym into a new indoor cycling studio and multi-purpose dance studio. The good news is that all studio based group fitness classes will continue at Hambleton Leisure Centre in the Sports Hall. The new studios will be complete in January 2018.

All customers have been contacted directly regarding the disruptions including how the revised dates affect them, a summary of which is below:

I am a member – how does this affect my me?

Zest Freedom

Zest Freedom members are encouraged to use the many activities included as part of their membership that are not affected by the swimming pool and sauna closure, including the gym, fitness classes and racquet sports.
Remember swimming is also available at Bedale, Stokesley and Thirsk & Sowerby Leisure Centres. Each centre also has a sauna.

Zest Swim (Adult and Junior)

Continued your membership to use another leisure centre? The current arrangements made regarding your membership during the pool closure will continue unless we hear otherwise.

The swim members who have taken a break and who have a Direct Debit collection on 1st of the month will receive a further membership discount in December – this will be £13.50 or £10 for concessions.

Direct debit collections on 15 December will be full payment.

Zest Junior Freedom

Those attending the additional lessons at Thirsk or those who have temporarily transferred to the existing swim lessons currently offered at Bedale, Stokesley and Thirsk Leisure Centres have the option to continue with this arrangement until Sunday 10 December 2017.

Please note that there will be no lessons at Thirsk on the afternoon of Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 December. Refunds will be applied to customers affected.

The customers who have taken a break will pay another reduced direct debit amount of £20 in November. This is based on your child’s current use and access to the activities available in their membership. Customers who make a Direct Debit payment on 1 December will pay another reduced amount of £20 due to the pool closure. Direct Debit collections on 15 December will be full payment.

Learn2 Swim Tots and Adults

Those who have temporarily transferred to the existing swim lessons currently offered at Bedale, Thirsk & Sowerby and Stokesley Leisure Centre have the option to continue with this arrangement until Sunday 10 December 2017.

Those who have taken a break can continue to freeze their payments and will remain in their existing class ready for reopening. There will be no direct debit collection taken in November. Swim Tots customers who make a Direct Debit payment on the 1st December will pay a reduced amount of £11 due to the pool closure. Direct Debit collections on 15 December will be full payment.

Learn2 Swim Junior

As a current junior swimming lesson user you have the following options:

Those attending the additional lessons at Thirsk or those who have temporarily transferred to the existing swim lessons currently offered at Bedale, Stokesley and Thirsk Leisure Centres have the option to continue with this arrangement until Sunday 10 December 2017.

Alternatively, if you would like to attend lessons at any of our other Leisure Centres during the extended closure please contact Leisure Membership Change on 01609 767114 to check availability. These swimming lessons are subject to availability on a first come, first served basis.

General Swimming (Casual Use)

The pool will be unavailable for general swimming during the closure. There are a number of general swim sessions including Lane Swimming at our other leisure centres at Bedale, Stokesley and Thirsk.
Please visit hambleton.gov.uk/zest for all leisure centre pool programmes or pick up any of the leisure centre timetables from Hambleton Leisure Centre reception.

As a result of the extended works the pool will now reopen on Monday 11 December 2017 as a consequence of the additional improvements and enhancements that will now take place.

Aquafit and Aquahealth (Casual Bookings)

As mentioned in a previous correspondence there are a number of Aqua Fitness classes available at our other leisure centres:

  • Aquafit classes take place at Bedale, Stokesley and Thirsk & Sowerby Leisure Centres throughout the week.
  • A supervised Aquahealth session runs at Thirsk & Sowerby Leisure Centre. Bedale and Stokesley Leisure Centres both offer an unsupervised session within their pool programme.

Should you attend an Aqua Fitness class at an alternative venue, we would like to offer you a reduction during the closure period at Hambleton Leisure Centre. Simply collect a voucher from reception and you can save £1 off each Aqua Fitness class you attend at another centre. Vouchers are available from Hambleton Leisure Centre reception.

Pool Parties

The leisure pool will be unavailable for hire during the closure period. Pool parties are available at Bedale, Stokesley and Thirsk & Sowerby Leisure Centres.

School Swimming

All primary schools have been notified regarding the closure of the pool.

Northallerton Amateur Swimming Club

NASC sessions will continue to run at Bedale Leisure Centre during the closure.
